ONDC Open Network for Digital Commerce भारत में digital commerce को अधिक inclusive, interoperable और accessible बनाने के उद्देश्य से विकसित किया गया एक open-network infrastructure है। ONDC का पूरा नाम Open Network for Digital Commerce है।
यह समझना जरूरी है कि ONDC स्वयं कोई सामान्य ONDC app, traditional marketplace या single ONDC ecommerce platform नहीं है। इसके बजाय, यह open protocols और network-based architecture पर काम करता है, जिसके माध्यम से अलग-अलग buyer applications, seller applications, logistics providers और अन्य participants एक-दूसरे से जुड़ सकते हैं।
ONDC की शुरुआत DPIIT यानी Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade की पहल के रूप में हुई। DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India के अंतर्गत आता है। ONDC को दिसंबर 2021 में Section 8 company के रूप में incorporate किया गया और अप्रैल 2022 में पहला transaction हुआ।

इस architecture का मुख्य उद्देश्य buyer और seller को एक ही platform तक सीमित रखने के बजाय अलग-अलग network participants को connect करना है।
एक common misconception है कि ONDC app नाम का कोई एक official application है जिसे download करके पूरा ONDC इस्तेमाल किया जाता है।
असल में ONDC स्वयं एक single consumer app नहीं है।
